For anyone whose focus dies at the kitchen table · About 27 pages · Instant download

Stop trying to be more productive. Build a room where productivity is what happens when you sit down.

You focus in the library and drift at home. You eat well at your parents' and badly in your flat. You work hard beside someone who works hard. None of that is character; it is how humans are built, and the people who seem disciplined have arranged their surroundings so discipline is rarely needed. This book shows you how: the two levers (cues and friction), the five layers of your environment, configurations for deep work and creative work, how to make bad habits impossible, how to keep it from decaying, and a 30-day plan measured in honest focus hours.

  • The full playbook (about 27 pages, phone or laptop)
  • Why the room wins: the evidence on willpower, cues and friction, and the one-day audit that maps what your environment is doing to you
  • The five layers: the physical room (one place for one thing, light, sound, the desk), the screen (hostile defaults, notifications, blockers), the people (you become the average; body doubling; accountability), the hours (chronotype, protecting the peak, rituals) and other places (the café effect, libraries, walks)
  • Configurations for deep work and for creative work, and the method for making bad habits impossible
  • The daily, weekly and monthly reset, the portable kit for travel and shared spaces, and the repeatable audit
  • A 30-day plan and nine worksheets, including the focus-hour count that proves it worked
🛡 Double Money-Back Guarantee. Apply the 30-day plan in the book. If you don't see results within the first month, email us and we refund you double what you paid.

What's inside

01

Why the room wins

The willpower problem, what the environment does (plates, defaults, stairs, the phone on the desk), the two levers, the five layers, and the one-day audit.

02

The physical room

One place for one thing, light, sound, temperature and air, the four-object desk, cues to add and friction to add.

03

The screen

Defaults are hostile; notifications; the home screen; the work browser profile; the blocker properly configured; email batched.

04

The people

You become the average of who you work near; body doubling; accountability; who to move away from.

05

The hours

Chronotype, protecting the peak, using the dip, routines as decisions made once, blocks and real breaks.

06

Other places

The café effect and why it works, libraries and co-working, movement and nature, the strategic change of scene.

07

An environment for deep work

All five layers configured, the five-action start ritual, the one task on a card, and the honest focus-hour count.

08

An environment for creative work

Focused versus diffuse attention, the settings for ideas (looser space, movement, inputs then silence, visible material, boredom allowed), and capture.

09

Making bad habits impossible

Invisible, inconvenient, unsatisfying; six worked examples; replacement not removal; the twenty-second rule.

10–12

The reset ritual, the portable environment, the audit repeated

Daily, weekly and monthly resets; the kit for travel, shared homes and open offices; reading the audit by layer.

13–14

The 30-day plan and worksheets

Audit, room, screen; hours and people; places and creativity; hold it. Audit sheet, layer checklists, focus-hour table.

Is it for you?

Who it's for

  • People who work from home or anywhere and have found that 'anywhere' is where focus dies.
  • Students, founders, writers, developers: anyone whose output depends on hours of concentration they can't seem to find.
  • People who tried the habit apps and morning routines and suspect the problem is the room.
  • Anyone who has noticed they behave differently in different places and wants to use that.

Not for you if

  • You want to buy your way to focus. Most of the book costs nothing; the one purchase it recommends is a pair of headphones.
  • You want a mindset. The book's position is that mindset is downstream of the room, and it gives you the room.
  • You expect a perfect environment to make a perfect worker. It removes the reasons you aren't working; the work is still yours.

Who's behind this

Leverage Your Environment is written by Manthan Bhendkar, founder of Asendify, a company that produces a great deal of work from very few people, largely by designing the conditions under which the work happens rather than by asking people to try harder.

The method is built on the behavioural research on cues, defaults and friction, the attention research on interruptions and the phone in the room, the chronotype literature, and the practical configurations used every day inside Asendify to get deep work out of ordinary rooms.

Questions

Isn't this just 'tidy your desk'?

The desk is one item in one of five layers. The others (the screen, the people you work near, the hours you protect, the places you go) usually matter more, and the book treats each as a separate design job with its own checklist.

Does it work in a shared flat or an open office?

Part 11 is specifically about environments you don't control: the portable kit, visible signals, negotiated hours, booked rooms, arriving before the office fills, and making a kitchen table into a desk with a ritual.

How much does it cost?

Almost nothing. The one purchase the book recommends is noise-cancelling headphones. Everything else is rearranging, configuring and scheduling.

What about creative work? Doesn't focus kill ideas?

Part 8 is a separate configuration for creative mode: looser space, walks, inputs then silence, visible material, boredom allowed, and a capture habit. The two modes alternate and the environment supports both.

What counts as results for the guarantee?

By day 30: honest focus hours in week 4 clearly higher than in week 1, audit entries on day 29 clearly fewer than on day 1, and the five layers configured with the resets running. The worksheets count both.
